THE AKIN FAMILY AT THE STATION, C. 1905. In a letter dated February 22, 1893, Timothy Akin Jr. described a breeches buoy rescue of nine men aboard a wrecked four-masted schooner. Two days later, he and four other lifesavers perished in an attempted rescue of the brig Aquatic. Akin family members are shown here about 12 years later.

THE LITTLEST SAILOR, C. 1935. An unidentified boy in sailor suit and hat stands at attention at the town dock. The lifesaving station and boathouse still stand in the background. They were replaced by the new Coast Guard station in 1937.
